Anthra's core strength is its organic link to community-led
action research projects. Through these projects we work closely with
diverse livestock-rearing and farming communities to enable them to:
* Articulate problems which need to be addressed, and
* Innovate and document different strategies and approaches that strengthen
livestock-rearing practices and
* Safeguard and sustain livelihoods systems based on bio diversity of
flora and fauna.
Our research is the lifeline to the other aspects
of our work like documentation, publications, training and policy research.
It is this link that makes for Anthra's integrated approach. We work
with and for the community in order to enable them to work effectively.
On principle and as policy Anthra ensures that its research does not
compromise the rights of communities to their livelihoods, knowledge
systems and biodiversity. We do not patent the positive results of any
research and firmly believe that such results should be disseminated
among, and actually used by, as large a number of farmers and pastoralists
as possible.
Projects
implemented to date include:
Indigenous Knowledge in Animal Health (IKAH project).
Documentation of traditional feeds and fodder (Fodder
Project).
In-situ conservation of Aseel Poultry Breed by adivasi
communities of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.
Projects to establish community herbal and fodder nurseries
and gardens and biodiversity parks with communities.
Production of herbal medicines by healers and health
workers for their wider use and availability by local communities.
