Pastoralist women remain among the least represented voices in global environmental

decision-making despite being vital actors in the stewardship and regeneration of rangelands

and rural territories This round-table centered pastoralist women’s voices and provided a

platform for them to share the outcomes of the Global Gathering of Pastoralist Women

(Kathmandu, May 2026). Round-table speakers representing pastoralist communities globally

shared  the uniquely participatory approach to developing the 2026 Kathmandu

Declaration of Pastoralist Women, how it builds on the 2010 Mera Declaration, and reflect on

progress made and challenges unmet since Mera and the way forward onwards from Ulanbaatar where the side event is taking place.

This event speaks to government leaders, policy-makers, CSOs, scientists to strengthen

recognition, human rights, peace and solidarity, and transformative action for pastoralist

peoples and the rangelands they sustain.
