  • Womens Day celebrations

    Womens day was celebrated at Narsapur, Medak district Andhra Pradesh on 8th March jointly by Anthra and Brathukuderuvu Mahila Sanghams. Womens day coincides with the blooming of Butea monosperma, the red coloured flowers(Moduga Puvvulu) symbolic of the struggle for life. More than 100 women from 17 womens sanghams participated and exchanged Moduga Puvvulu and discussed their past years achievements and plans for the coming year. Womens day was celebrated in Chittoor district by the Womens Sangham. Adivasi Organisations associated with ANTHRA celebrated womens day in their respected districts from Srikakulam to Adilabad. In Maharashtra events were organized in Solapur and Ratnagiri districts to mark Women\’s day. The highlight of this years events was a cookery competition celebrating local biodiversity. Women from the pastoral and farming community brought in a wide variety of delectable foods using only locally available produce. Prizes were awarded on the basis of nutritive value as well as taste. Finger millet and sorghum preparations stole the show.
